Do you want sparkling clean rims too? Then you've come to the right place! In this article, we explain how to best clean your truck's rims yourself. Below you will find a step-by-step guide on how to make your truck's rims shine again. You'll also find useful products that make cleaning your rims a breeze!
The importance of clean rims for a truck
We have previously explained why it is important to wash your truck regularly. It would be a shame not to clean your rims then! Clean rims contribute to the overall appearance of the truck. A clean and well-maintained truck looks more professional and attractive, which can make a positive impression on customers, colleagues and other road users. Everyone wants that, right?
Dirt, road salt and brake dust can also damage the rims over time and lead to corrosion. Regularly cleaning the truck's rims and applying a protective wax layer can help prevent corrosion and rust. A wax layer also provides extra shine. Put on those sunglasses!
Cleaning rims
Cleaning rims, whether they are ordinary car rims or special rims such as aluminium rims (Alcoa), requires some care and attention. Here are general steps to properly clean your truck's rims:
Supplies:
- Bucket of water
- Soft rim brush
- Special rim cleaner
- Garden hose or pressure washer
- Microfibre cloth
Steps to clean your rims:
- Rinse: Start by thoroughly rinsing the truck's rims with water. This removes loose dirt, dust, and debris.
- Rim Cleaner: Spray the rim cleaner evenly over the rims. Follow the product instructions for the correct dwell time. In our opinion, the best rim cleaner is the Wheel Cleaner from Truckssupply. This rim cleaner removes 95% of all grime without brushing.
- Brush: Use a soft rim brush to gently scrub the rims. Concentrate on areas where dirt, brake dust, and stains accumulate.
- Thoroughly rinse: Rinse the rims again thoroughly with water to remove all cleaning product residue. Make sure no cleaning agent is left behind, as this can cause stains.
- Finish with a microfibre cloth: Use a clean microfibre cloth to completely dry the rims. This helps to prevent water spots and gives the rims a beautiful shine.
- Apply rim wax: For an extra glossy result, you can also apply rim wax, such as the Fast Wax from Truckssupply. You apply this spray to a clean cloth or directly to the truck rims, then buff it with a clean microfibre cloth.
Extra tips:
- Work on one rim at a time to prevent the cleaning agent from drying before you can rinse it off.
- Avoid using aggressive cleaning agents, such as acidic products, as these can damage the rims.
- Regular maintenance of your rims, for example once a month, helps prevent dirt and corrosion and keeps your rims looking good.
