Your tires have to endure quite a bit. Sand, stones, brake dust, dirt, but also other factors can cause the appearance of the tires to deteriorate. And not only that, there are also certain factors that influence the lifespan of the tires. In this article we look at the reasons why it is good to maintain your tires well and how you can best get your tires nice and black again.
The importance of clean tires
Getting your truck tires dirty is inevitable, brake dust and other dirt that you encounter during the ride is just part of it. However, you can make sure that your tires are cleaned regularly for an optimal driving experience and to extend their lifespan! Below are a few reasons why it is important to take good care of your tires.
1. Grip
Clean tires provide better grip on the road. A layer of mud or dirt or grease on the tires can reduce grip on the road. This gives you a longer braking distance and increases the chance of accidents. Clean tires help you maneuver better, especially in difficult conditions such as rain, snow or muddy roads.
2. Lifespan
Dirt and mud can scuff and wear the surface of your tires. Keeping your tires clean reduces the chance of uneven wear and extends the life of your tires. The sun can also damage the rubber. Treating your tires regularly can prevent this. We will discuss this later.
3. Overheating
Mud and dirt can build up in the grooves of your tires, causing them to overheat, especially during long rides. Overheated tires are more likely to blow out, which can be very dangerous, especially at high speeds.
4. Appearance
Clean black tires look much nicer than tires full of dirt. Whether it's your own truck or that of the boss, it never hurts to arrive at a customer's with a clean truck. That way you radiate professionalism! But it doesn't stop at the tires, your rims also deserve a regular polish!

Steps
- Rinse the tires: Use a garden hose or pressure washer to rinse mud, dirt, and other loose debris from the tires. This will leave the tire surface clean and easier to clean.
- Use a mild detergent: Fill a bucket with warm water and add a mild car shampoo. Do not use harsh chemicals, as these can damage the tires.
- Brush the tires: Use a soft brush, such as a nylon brush, to gently scrub the tires. Be careful not to use a hard brush or abrasive cleaner, as this can damage the rubber. For some areas, such as in the tire tread or around the valve, you can also use a toothbrush.
- Rinse thoroughly: Rinse the tires thoroughly with clean water to wash away all soap residue and dirt.
- Drying: Let tires dry naturally or use a clean cloth to wipe them down. Make sure tires are completely dry before driving.
- Check for damage: While you are cleaning the tires, also check for any damage, such as bulges, cracks or nails stuck in the tires. This prevents nasty surprises on the road!

What is tire black or tire dressing good for?
We always recommend using a tire dressing or tire black. Tire black, also known as tire dressing, is a product used to give tires a dark, shiny appearance. It is often used after tires have been cleaned. Here are some reasons why people use tire black:
- Aesthetic Purpose: Tire Black gives tires a deep, black shine that looks fresh and new. This enhances the appearance of the vehicle and gives it a neat look.
- UV Protection: Tire dressings often contain ingredients that protect against the damaging effects of UV radiation. UV radiation can damage rubber and lead to drying, cracking and fading of tires.
- Prevents Drying Out: Rubber can dry out from exposure to the sun and air. Tire black contains moisturizers and conditioners that help keep the rubber supple and prevent drying out.
- Water-repellent: Some tire dressings contain water-repellent properties, which means they help repel water. This can be useful during rainy weather and contributes to safety because water doesn’t pool on the tires, which can reduce aquaplaning.
- Extends life: Regular use of tire dressing can keep tires in better condition. Well-maintained tires generally last longer, which can ultimately save money.
Many people think that tire dressing is only used for aesthetic purposes, but as you can read above, that is not true! It is also a way to extend the life of the tires.
