Degrease and clean the outside of the car
Before you start, it is useful to know where those dirty windows actually come from. If you know that, you can also work more purposefully. These are the top 3 safety features on your windows:• Flies and other insects.
• Sand and soil.
• Diesel soot particles from the car or truck in front of you.
Diesel soot particles stick, flies and insects leave tough residues and sand scratches. So immediately wiping your windows clean with a cloth is definitely not a good idea. We have a special technique for that.
Can you use a sponge or kitchen roll?
We can be brief about this. Do not use kitchen roll on the outside of the windows. Your windows should be rinsed well with plenty of water and a few thin sheets of kitchen roll are simply not suitable for this job. It is not a good idea to immediately go into polishing mode. The sand will damage your window and cause scratches. Of course, a professional polisher can repair your windows and a handy side effect is that they are then also immediately clean, but this is a rather expensive way to get those coveted clean and shiny windows. Not really convenient.The easiest way is to fill a bucket with warm water and a dash of dishwashing liquid. Don't be stingy with the water, because all the sand has to come off first. Is the sand off your window? Then it's time to scrub a bit more vigorously. The warm water will probably loosen even the toughest insect and the dishwashing liquid will quickly deal with those sticky soot particles.
A good idea and a bad idea. Using alcohol on your windows is a good idea, but only use it if dishwashing liquid doesn't get your windows clean enough. Ammonia, on the other hand, is a particularly bad idea. It attacks the rubber, which in addition to dirty windows in the future also creates a whole new problem. So don't do it.
Cleaning the windows inside your car
Cleaning the outside of your windows isn’t enough, because the inside needs to be done too. Luckily, we have good news for you. This is a lot less work than cleaning the outside. In principle, you could just use kitchen roll, but we prefer microfiber cloths, because they have a soft, fine structure and remove dirt better.Spray your window with some window cleaner and rub it dry. Still not satisfied with the result? Repeat this until your window is completely clean and you are satisfied.
Golden tip for streak-free and perfectly clean windows
Now that both the inside and outside are clean, it can still happen that you see some stripes here and there. Stripes that are not constantly visible, but only from a certain angle or light incidence.To get rid of those streaks on your windows in one go, rub the inside horizontally and the outside vertically. Now you can see the remaining streaks right away. This way you can tackle them specifically with the above tips.
