How do I polish my car and what is it actually?
Polishing is the use of a mild abrasive to remove a very thin layer of the surface being polished. This process is usually preceded by a very thorough cleaning of the surface. There are products for polishing paint, glass, plastic, perspex, metal and other solids. If the paint of the car has become dull over the years and shows some scratches, you have the car polished. During polishing, nothing more is actually done than shaving off a very thin layer of the paint. This removes small scratches and damage and makes the paint even again. An even paint can reflect the light better and this gives the paint its shine back. For deeper scratches, polishing the paint is not enough and a different repair technique will have to be used.
How to polish your car paint yourself
Of course, you can outsource the polishing of the paint of the car, but you can also choose to do it yourself. Polishing car paint is easy to do yourself. This can be done by machine or by hand.
If you prefer to polish it yourself, you can use the following steps. We also advise you to follow these steps to make your car look like new again. And here a good start is certainly half the battle. By treating the car paint in the right way, you will ultimately have the best result.
Step-by-step plan
• Step 1: start by washing the car. Choose a good and powerful car shampoo. This will remove all the dirt.
• Step 2: Rinse the car and dry the paint with a high quality microfiber cloth.
• Step 3: After your car is dry, you are going to clay the car to clean it completely. You do this with a special clay bar and clay lubricant. Always work part by part. And from top to bottom. Then dry it with a dry and clean microfiber cloth.
• Step 4: Start polishing the paint. Choose a high-quality polish. Do not use too much polish and spread it over the pad. Start at a low speed and when the product is well spread, go to a higher speed. Make sure the machine keeps moving and follows the lines of the car.
• Step 5: Check the surface and if you are satisfied you can move on to the next part.
• Step 6: Then use a dry microfiber cloth again to remove any remaining polish residue.
• Step 7: After polishing, protect the car paint with a good wax. Use small circular motions to apply the wax. Let it dry for a while, as indicated in the product description of the product, and then wipe dry again with a clean microfiber cloth.
